Have you tested your fuel tanks? It is a good idea to do both the fuel tests mentioned below periodically on all of your fuel tanks to keep your fleet and tanks free of contaminants. Otherwise, your company might be faced with a serious risk of tank failure which is a very expensive clean up.
Periodically, check if there is any water in the tank. Water is not wanted in fuel tanks because it causes the fuel to biodegrade. This will lead to a decrease in engine power over time and even cause them to be inoperable. Water is heavier than fuel so if water is in the fuel tank it will sink to the bottom and the containment in the water will eventually cause a buildup of bacteria in the tank.
This test requires you to walk around to do a visual inspection of the tank. Keep an eye out for discharge, corrosion, accumulation of fuel, and general deterioration. Look around the entire tank as well as the support structures and the foundation. This test should be performed on a regular schedule to prevent an above ground leak in the fuel tank.
